NOAA Hurricane Hunters complete another mission into Tropical Storm Chris

The NOAA Hurricane Hunters have just completed a third mission into Tropical Storm Chris, which is sitting nearly stationary off the Carolinas. HRD scientists have been onboard these missions. The most recently completed mission executed a rotated Figure-4 pattern, with four crossings of the center of Chris (image below). This pattern allows us to get a detailed look at the structure all around the inner core of the storm. The missions have been tasked by the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) Environmental Modeling Center (EMC) with the goal of collecting Doppler radar and dropsonde data that will be assimilated real-time in forecast models.

The next P-3 mission to Tropical Storm Chris is scheduled to takeoff at 4:30 PM ET and will execute a similar pattern.
