In May of 1990, Roger Pielke, Sr., an atmospheric sciences professor at Colorado State University, published his book entitled “The Hurricane.”  The 228-page tome was published by Routledge Press of London.  It was aimed at the scientifically-minded public and provided an overview of the latest thinking about tropical cyclone genesis, evolution, track, and structure.  The index contained all of the Atlantic hurricane track charts going back to 1871.  In addition to subsequent revisions, seven years later Dr. Pielke later wrote “Hurricanes: Their Nature and Impacts on Society” along with his son Roger Pielke, Jr.
